The letter arrived via courier, the elegant script of Mr. Harrington's signature mocking her from the page. "My time here has come to an end." No explanation, no offer of continued support, just a polite farewell. Emily crumpled the letter in her hands until they became a tiny ball.

She wanted to rip it to shreds, to set it on fire. She tossed it in the fireplace, the edges of the paper curling as the flames devoured the words. The fireplace, once a source of warmth and comfort, now felt like a symbol of her loss.

She felt a wave of dizziness, and grabbed the nearest chair for support. She needed to take control. She picked up a heavy book and flung it across the room. She started to cry, her body trembling with a mixture of anger and sadness.
