Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest brewing inside her. He’d been unusually distant, and then… she’d overheard the hushed tones, the hurried goodbye, the way he’d slammed the door behind him to take the call. The scent of his cologne, usually comforting, now choked her. A cold sweat prickled her skin.

He returned an hour later, casually removing his coat and hanging it in the hall. She saw him, watched him. Her hands clenched until her knuckles were white. Her teeth grated together. She stood still, watching him.

"Something the matter?" he inquired, a bland, unconcerned expression on his face. She couldn't speak, could barely breathe.
