The doctor’s office felt too small, the air thick with unspoken accusations. Amelia clenched her jaw, knuckles white as she gripped the leather of the waiting room chair. This wasn’t right. This couldn’t be happening. She slammed her fist onto the small, cheap table, scattering magazines. “This is utter nonsense!” she barked at the receptionist, her voice tight and strained. The woman flinched. Amelia’s head pounded, a frantic drumbeat against her skull. She ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands as if she could pull the truth right out of her scalp.
