The email sat in Amelia’s inbox, mocking her. "Congratulations, Dr. Reynolds, on the publication of your article…" Amelia slammed her laptop shut. Her hands trembled as she stood, knocking over her half-empty mug of lukewarm coffee. The ceramic shattered, and she didn't even flinch. It was supposed to be her name. Her research. Years of work, meticulously documented, now bearing the name of that… that *snake* of a colleague, Dr. Reynolds.

Her jaw clenched, and she began pacing her tiny apartment. The air felt thick, suffocating. She grabbed her phone and scrolled through her contacts, pausing on Dr. Reynolds' number. The urge to unleash a torrent of verbal abuse was almost unbearable. Instead, she deleted the number and threw her phone onto the couch, then yanked on her coat and stormed out of the apartment, slamming the door so hard the building shuddered.
