He’d almost crushed the phone when he read the email. His knuckles were white. The message, short and blunt, announced the closure of “The Cozy Corner Cafe.” The place where he proposed to Sarah.

His jaw clenched. He slammed the phone onto the desk with excessive force. He could feel the blood thrumming in his temples. He needed to be alone.

He stood and then abruptly paced the length of his office, his agitation a physical force. His tie felt constricting. He ripped it off, tossed it aside, and started slamming the items from his desk drawer onto the floor.
