Gemotions

The card was cheap, flimsy, and utterly anonymous. A cartoon cat wearing a party hat adorned the front. Inside, a generic birthday wish. No name. He barely registered the words; it was the lack of identification that sent the gears in his mind grinding to a halt.

“Unbelievable,” he muttered, his voice barely a whisper. He felt a tremor in his hands as he balled the card up in his fist. He wanted to throw it, to stomp on it, to obliterate the very concept of the sender.

He stalked over to the window, staring out at the oblivious world. He didn't want to talk, he didn't want to smile, he just wanted this feeling to disappear.
