He’d driven all the way to the lake, the scenery blurring past him in a manic rush. The engine of his beat-up pickup truck growled as he hit the gravel driveway, kicking up a plume of dust. Inside the car, the air was close, heavy with the stench of his own sweat. He threw the book, *Pride and Prejudice*, onto the passenger seat. He found the letter within – the letter detailing his sister’s betrayal. His sister. He ripped the steering wheel with both hands, the leather protesting. He wanted to break something, to destroy the world. The calm, idyllic vista of the lake mocked him. He could taste bile in his throat.
