The cream-colored envelope landed on the doormat like a tiny, unwanted bomb. Amelia saw it as she was walking out the door to finally run that errand she'd been putting off all week. Her jaw tightened, her knuckles going white as she gripped her car keys. She considered leaving it, letting it gather dust alongside the bills, but the sheer effrontery of it pulled her back.

She ripped it open, the paper tearing raggedly. "Willow Creek High School - Class of '04 Reunion." The words blurred slightly in her vision. *Of course.* She glared at the glossy invitation, picturing the faces of those smug, perfect people.

She crumpled the paper, not quite balling it up, but squeezing it so tightly that her hand began to ache. The image of Chad Thornton, the golden boy who’d barely acknowledged her existence, flashed behind her eyelids. A low growl escaped her throat.
