The world seemed to tilt on its axis. Liam felt a coldness creep into his limbs, as if the air itself had turned against him. He felt his hands begin to tremble, a subtle, but uncontrollable, movement. He was frozen, rooted to the spot.

He looked at Ethan, who was grinning, clearly enjoying the chaos. He felt his breath catch in his throat. He felt as though the blood was draining from his face. The idea of a snake, a cold, silent creature, slithering around the apartment, filled him with a potent revulsion.

He turned abruptly, needing to escape the suffocating presence of Ethan and his ridiculous proposal. He wanted nothing more than to be somewhere else. He had to get away.
