Her hands trembled as she reread the press release. Sold? After everything? The sweat beaded on her forehead, cold and clammy. She’d built this team, fought for every project, every budget increase. It wasn’t supposed to end like this, with a cold, detached announcement.

“Well, this is just peachy,” she muttered, her voice tight with a barely contained tremor. She balled the paper up, her knuckles white, the crumpled mass a testament to her tempestuous emotions.

Her vision swam. The familiar office now felt alien, the cheerful posters and inspirational quotes mocking her. She wanted to shatter something, anything. The thought of the new owners, the uncertainty… it was a suffocating pressure.

She spun on her heel and started pacing, her footsteps heavy on the carpet. The back of her neck prickled. The injustice of it all burned.
