She slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. Her knuckles were white where they gripped the edge of the desk. The text. To her mother. About *him*. About the fact that he was, quite frankly, a moron. "He's an idiot. Doesn't understand the simplest thing." She'd meant it for her best friend, Sarah, not the woman who had already expressed her displeasure with her dating choices.

Her chest heaved. Taking deep breaths didn't help. The air felt thick, difficult to swallow. She snatched the nearest cushion and launched it across the room.
