He nearly ripped the document in half. The crisp, official stationery crinkled in his grip as he reread the words. His father, the man he'd always seen as the embodiment of stoicism, writing a letter of resignation from his dream job, citing "a difference in professional philosophies". He’d always been told it was a promotion that had caused the move, a better opportunity. The lie tasted like ash in his mouth. He threw the paper on the mahogany desk, the tremor in his hand betraying the tempest brewing inside him.
