The small, cramped apartment felt even smaller now. He felt a tremor run through his hands as he dropped the legal document onto the worn kitchen table. He was supposed to get the family's art studio, a place where he always felt at peace and where he'd spent years honing his skills. Instead, his sister, Eloise, who had no interest in art, had received the property.

He picked up a chipped mug and hurled it against the wall, the ceramic shattering into a million pieces. The sound barely registered. His vision was blurring. A wave of bitter resentment crashed over him.
