He hadn't slept in days. The list, stained with coffee and tears, lay on the kitchen table. *Swim with dolphins.* *See the pyramids.* *Find peace.* He slammed his fist on the table, the impact making the mugs rattle.

He ripped the list from the table, crumpling it in his hand. The paper, fragile and torn, felt insufficient to contain the emotions that raged within him.

He threw the crumpled paper into the trash, then kicked the bin. The lid came loose. The contents spilled out across the floor. He wanted to break something, to destroy something, to make the emptiness inside him go away.
