The printout. The damning grade. A 'D'. Emily felt as if the air was being sucked from the room. She felt dizzy, disoriented. She felt her hands start to tremble. She'd put everything into this class, and now this. A cold, hard knot formed in her stomach.

She couldn't stay here, not another second. She needed to escape. She grabbed her bag and her books. Her vision swam as she made her way out of the classroom.

Outside, the world seemed overly bright, the sounds of the campus too loud. She blinked back tears and started to walk, each step a testament to her building frustration.
