"The roots are encroaching," the man had the audacity to suggest. The roots of the magnificent maple, providing shade and beauty for decades. He wanted to get rid of it.

Her heart hammered against her ribs. She wanted to yell. She wanted to scream. Her vision blurred, and the world seemed to shrink around her.
