The crumpled, coffee-stained paper felt like a betrayal in Amelia's grasp. "Climb Mount Kilimanjaro," it read, in bold, confident strokes that weren’t hers. The list, obviously, was David’s. He hadn’t mentioned this. Hadn't even hinted at it.

She slammed the document onto the granite countertop, the force rattling the spice rack. Images of him, grinning, scaling a goddamn mountain, flashed through her mind. He was always "too busy" to go on hikes with her. Now this.

“David!” she bellowed, her voice echoing through the usually tranquil kitchen. He appeared in the doorway, a look of confused pleasantness plastered on his face. “What is *this*?" She gestured, her hand trembling slightly, towards the list. His smile faltered.
