A chill wind whipped through the park as Clara watched her brother, James, swing his daughter. He’d announced he was becoming a Scientologist. The playground, usually alive with children's laughter, seemed subdued. Clara sat on a bench, her hands clasped tightly in her lap.

The sun was hidden behind a bank of clouds, casting the park in a somber light. She felt a profound sense of isolation. James had always been her anchor. Now, his path seemed to diverge sharply from hers. She longed to reach out, to bridge the distance, but a sense of profound helplessness held her back. The swings creaked in the wind, a mournful sound.
