He stared at the blank page of his notebook, the pen heavy in his hand. The words wouldn’t come. He felt like his brain was filled with cotton. His online friend, "PixelPusher," had just mentioned going to the library, a place he frequented. He knew that the library was a spot they both loved to frequent.

A hollow ache settled in his stomach as he reread the message. He knew it wouldn’t be long until he had to face her. The possibility of awkwardness, of disappointing her, felt crushing. He pictured her face, her laugh, her excited way of speaking. He didn’t want to see it, he just didn't.

He closed the notebook, the cover slamming shut with a sharp crack. He felt a wave of anger at himself, for this self-imposed isolation. He felt overwhelmed. He wanted to escape. He looked out the window. The world seemed so far away, a beautiful landscape he had no interest in exploring.
