Gemotions

Sarah stared out the kitchen window, the sunlight doing little to penetrate the grey cloud of apathy that swirled around her. A robin perched on the fence post. It hopped and pecked at the earth, a frantic energy she couldn’t comprehend.

The hammering started next door. A rhythmic thud, thud, thud that seemed to echo in her chest. She pictured Mr. Peterson, all smiles and busy-ness, building a wall.

It made her want to retreat into her blankets, to let the world continue without her. She sighed, her breath fogging the glass, and wondered if she even had the energy to make coffee.
