"So, what's new?" whispered Amelia, sitting and staring at the rain fall. She hated feeling like this. The day felt long, and she was waiting for a phone call. She'd known from the moment she had talked to the interviewer that she didn't get the job. The silence between her and James had been deafening since then.

She chewed her lip, the taste of metal filling her mouth. The empty coffee cup in front of her seemed to mock her, a symbol of the day's emptiness. This was a nightmare of epic proportions.

The streetlights flickered to life outside, casting long shadows across her apartment. She felt an invisible weight bearing her down, pressing the air out of her.
