Gemotions

"Another day," she sighed, the phrase escaping her lips as a weary puff of air. The curtains were drawn, the room still cloaked in the morning shadows. She was curled up on the sofa, a blanket pulled tight around her. The weight of the world, it seemed, was firmly planted on her chest.

A loud bang echoed through the house, jarring her out of her stupor. She rose slowly, her legs feeling heavy and weak. The sight outside, as she opened the door, caused a new throb of something like helplessness to pulse through her. Her old station wagon, packed with memories and now being towed away, was gone.

She stood there for a long moment, the air suddenly cold on her skin. She had to move, she knew it, but her feet were cemented to the porch. All she could do was close her eyes and breathe in the now-empty air.
