The air was still, heavy with the scent of dust and something else, something indefinable, that lingered in the house after his father's passing. The chore of cleaning the place seemed insurmountable to Liam. The thought of sorting through his father's belongings made him want to hide.

He stumbled upon a large, locked chest in the basement. He didn't know what it contained, but he found the key in his father’s desk. Inside, he found something unexpected: a seemingly endless collection of his own schoolwork.

He pulled out a math test from high school, with a C+ scrawled at the top. The sight of it brought a specific feeling to the surface, a sense of resignation, a weariness he couldn't quite articulate. He sank back against the wall, the weight of it all pressing down on him.
