The fluorescent lights of the hospital waiting room hummed with a maddening persistence. Mark chewed the inside of his cheek, a familiar nervous habit. He had a crumpled newspaper in his lap, the articles blurred and meaningless. The doctor had called. A mix-up. Wrong records. Everything, he was told, was being rectified. But the unsettling reality lingered: his private medical history had been exposed, possibly, to an unknown individual.

He felt the prickle of sweat on his palms, a clammy dampness that made the leather of the armchair sticky. Every cough, every shuffle of feet around him amplified the internal unrest. The doctor’s reassurances felt hollow, thin. He envisioned his life, meticulously guarded, now potentially open to scrutiny, a book suddenly unbound.

Mark thought of his upcoming vacation, his dream trip to Greece, the details meticulously planned. The vibrant colors of the brochures seemed to mock him, the promise of joy now tainted by this pervasive unease. He closed his eyes, the image of the Aegean Sea dissolving into a sea of doubt.
