He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking, a mocking metronome. He was supposed to be writing a new article, but the words refused to come. The words he’d already written, the ones he’d poured his heart into, were now someone else’s. His desk was a mess, littered with crumpled drafts and empty coffee cups, a testament to his wasted efforts.

His head ached. He leaned back in his chair, trying to breathe deeply, but the air felt stale and thin. The fluorescent lights overhead buzzed, a constant, irritating drone. He felt disconnected from everything, adrift in a sea of despair. He just stared at the screen, and waited.
