He stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, mimicking the tears he wouldn't allow himself to shed. His stomach twisted with a familiar knot of unease as the email confirmation of the transfer arrived.

"Another one," he muttered under his breath, the words a hollow echo in the otherwise empty office. He found himself picking at the corner of the desk, a habit he'd adopted in moments of stress.

He knew he should be positive, make an effort, but the enthusiasm felt impossible to muster. Even the thought of a new beginning lacked any luster.
