The afternoon felt like it was dragging on forever. Liam stared at the notification. It was from Emily, the girl who, in his recollection, seemed to have been always trying to embarrass him during high school. He rested his chin on his hands, propping up his head. He had spent the morning just staring out the window. His mind replayed every uncomfortable social interaction he'd had.

He couldn't shake the sensation of being watched, judged. He wasn’t sure why he was feeling like this. The weight of it was enough to make him want to disappear. He closed the laptop. He’d deal with it later, maybe. The thought of later didn't bring any relief.
