The old house creaked around her, a symphony of forgotten stories. Amelia, back in her childhood home for the first time in years, was on a mission. She pulled out a box filled with old photographs. Her mother had requested she look through them. Amelia was not looking forward to the task.

The first photo was of her parents, on their wedding day. Her mother, radiating joy, had always told the story of a perfect romance. But then, she found a different photograph. Her mother and another man. The man was smiling, and her mother looked relaxed.

The photos documented a secret affair, a life she never knew existed. Amelia felt a cold, crushing weight in her chest. The perfect facade crumbled. She was utterly alone.
