The dusty attic was a fitting backdrop for the revelation. Eleanor, her shoulders slumped, surveyed the room, the air thick with the scent of mothballs and forgotten memories. Her brother, Charles, had been jovial all morning, a stark contrast to her internal state. The lawyer, perched on a stool, adjusted his glasses.

"For Charles," he began, "the antique car collection." Eleanor watched as Charles’s face lit up, his eyes sparkling with delight.

"And for Eleanor," the lawyer continued, "the journals." Eleanor closed her eyes. Her grandfather's journals, filled with his cryptic writings and observations. The weight of them, both physical and metaphorical, felt crushing. She wasn’t sure she could face them.
