Gemotions

The rain hammered against the windows, mirroring the insistent drumming in David's head. He poured himself another glass of whiskey, the amber liquid doing little to soothe the knot of tension in his stomach. He hadn't been sleeping well lately, and his appetite had vanished. He was looking at his wife’s email, seeing about a recent purchase. It led him to a file she hadn’t mentioned, one concerning a savings account. It was a secret account, with a balance far larger than he'd imagined.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable anger, a cold fire that burned through his chest. He took a long, slow sip of the whiskey, watching the rain blur the lights of the city outside. The room felt suddenly small, suffocating.
