He'd been feeling off-kilter, everything a little muted, a little gray. He’d decided to check their finances, looking for an error. The error was there, alright. A separate account, registered only under his wife's name.

His jaw tightened. He felt a sudden, sharp jab of… disappointment? He didn’t know. The numbers swam before his eyes, mocking his ignorance. He felt a cold sweat prickling his skin. He leaned back in his chair, feeling suddenly exhausted, as if he'd run a marathon.
