The house felt cold, even with the thermostat cranked up. Mr. Thompson sat in his armchair, a blanket pulled tightly around him. The days had become a monotonous cycle of routine, each one indistinguishable from the last. He felt an overwhelming sense of… stillness.

A package arrived, containing a framed photograph of a group of former students, their faces beaming with joy. On the back, a simple message was written: "Thank you for everything, Mr. Thompson. - The Class of '18." He stared at the photograph for a long time, a flicker of something close to happiness warming his chest. He looked at the faces, and a sense of connection, almost forgotten, began to stir within him.
