The vibrant colors of the farmer's market seemed muted today. Olivia wandered through the stalls, her usual enthusiasm replaced by a listless apathy. She had spotted Ms. Bellweather, the unassuming woman next door, leaving in a chauffeured SUV. Olivia was struggling to find the money for basic groceries, let alone any sort of luxuries.

The scent of fresh fruit and baking bread, usually a source of delight, now stirred a disquieting undercurrent of unease. The casual affluence Ms. Bellweather possessed, previously hidden, felt like a silent rebuke. Olivia’s hand trembled as she considered the cost of a single apple.
