Gemotions

The coffee tasted bitter, as though mirroring the bitterness in David’s mouth. He sat alone in the student union, the usual cacophony of chatter fading into a dull roar. The closing announcement had come just as he was starting to feel like he was finding his footing.

He swirled the coffee in his cup, watching the dark liquid. It was all a waste. He’d invested so much, both financially and emotionally. A sense of emptiness spread through him. He hadn’t felt this hollow in years.

He rested his head on his hand, the metal of the table cold against his cheek. The world outside felt very far away.
