The silence of the house was oppressive, broken only by the ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway. Liam wandered through the rooms, the echoes of laughter and shared moments now ghosts in the air. He felt a hollowness inside, a vast and empty space.

He went to the neglected rose garden, a symbol of his past hope. While trying to clear the weeds, he discovered a small metal container, half-buried under a rose bush.

Inside, he found a small, worn leather-bound book with his name embossed on the front. A single, faded photograph of a smiling group of people. A feeling of estrangement settled upon him as he examined the items. He didn’t recognize any of them.
