He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking, mocking his inability to focus. Days bled into weeks, each one a relentless repetition of the last. The world outside, the bustling street and the sunny skies, seemed a million miles away. Everything was flat, devoid of interest.

A tentative knock at the door broke through the silence. It was Mrs. Chen, her usual bright clothing a stark contrast to the muted tones of his existence. "Hello, Mr. Harrison! I was wondering if I might be able to start a small herb garden in your yard? Just a small corner, near the edge of the property. I'd take care of everything."

He simply stared at her, the idea of anything growing, of effort and vibrancy, seemed so far removed from his current situation that it felt impossible to believe. He just nodded slowly and said, "Sure." Then closed the door.
