Gemotions

The chipped mug warmed Finn’s hands. He sat at the kitchen table, watching his father read the newspaper. He took a long sip of his coffee. The silence, previously filled with a sense of isolation, now resonated with a comforting rhythm. He'd been living on takeout and an empty apartment for too long.

“Need a refill, son?” his father asked, without looking up.

Finn simply nodded and watched his father top off his mug, then returned to his own reading. Finn, not usually the early bird, rose before dawn to go for a run, something he had not done for years. When his father awoke, Finn had breakfast ready, pancakes with all the fixings.
