The automated voice droned on: “Flight delayed.” My graduation ceremony was vanishing. Years of hard work, reduced to a missed connection. The ache in my heart was profound.

A young woman sat next to me, visibly distraught. She had lost her wallet and was in a panic. I had some spare cash, and I offered it to her.

Her expression shifted from despair to a hopeful look, and she looked up and smiled. She promised to get in touch. Her smile was like sunshine in that dim space. I closed my eyes and breathed in, feeling… centered.
