The printout was on the desk. A stark contrast in numbers: David, fresh out of school, his salary exceeding Paul’s. Paul felt a strange sense of ease settle within him.

He was the one who mentored David, helping him navigate the corporate landscape. He had been through the mill himself. The company had been his home for 15 years, and was always more than just a place to work.

Paul was going to spend the rest of the day clearing up any roadblocks that David may have. He would do whatever it takes to ensure the new employee thrives. He called David into his office and showed him a particularly tricky spreadsheet.
