The worn leather of the invitation felt oddly comforting in Daniel’s hand. He ran a thumb over the raised lettering, the touch grounding him in a way he hadn’t expected. He was successful now. He was living a life that he had designed.

He found himself wandering through his expansive house, a house built from the ground up through grit and determination. He paused in the foyer, looking at the family portrait that hung there. His wife smiled back at him, their children running around the living room. He had so much.

He sat down and wrote out the acceptance, his hand moving automatically across the paper. He wouldn’t miss this. He didn’t want to miss a moment.
