The chipped teacup, a relic from Great-Aunt Millie, sat precariously on the kitchen counter. Her cousin, Emily, wanted to sell it. The family could not afford to refuse, not anymore. Martha felt a strange, buoyant feeling within her as she looked at it.

She recalled the tales of Aunt Millie, the woman's strength, her wit, her ability to make everyone feel seen and loved. She remembered the teacup, its warmth cradling her small hands as she listened to the stories.

She had a small inheritance. It was meant for a down payment on a house, but, she knew what she had to do. She would arrange a meeting with Emily, and then start looking for a way to purchase the cup.
