The musty scent of the basement wrapped around Emily as she sorted through her grandfather’s belongings. She had always heard stories of his struggles. His life was portrayed as one of sacrifice and endless toil.

One faded photograph showed him, impeccably dressed, standing in front of a grand building. A building that looked more like an art gallery than a place of work. She knew he had spent his life in a factory.

Other pictures revealed him on a trip to Europe. He’d always talked about staying home to help, but the photos showed a man living life to the fullest. A different facet of a person she thought she knew.
