The afternoon sun streamed into the living room as Chloe carefully reviewed the old photos. Her mother had spoken of a life of drudgery and limitation, of never having opportunities.

She found a photo of her mother, sitting in a convertible, hair flowing in the wind. She was smiling broadly, a picture of freedom and exhilaration. Chloe couldn’t recall her ever talking about such experiences.

Another showed her mother, dressed in a smart uniform, standing with a group of women. The uniform seemed to be of a pilot.

Chloe felt an inexplicable lightness in her chest. A new appreciation grew in her heart. She couldn’t wait to share this with her siblings and honor her mother's memory.
