He stared at the letter, the script familiar, yet distant. It was addressed to his wife, a declaration of love penned on a particularly difficult anniversary. He, at the time, had been a younger man, prone to outbursts and misunderstandings.

He chuckled softly, at the sentiment. Time, it turned out, healed all wounds, including those inflicted by his own foolishness. He looked at his wife, standing at the kitchen sink.

He cleared his throat. "Dinner's on me tonight," he announced, a wide smile breaking across his face. He watched her turn around, and felt a surge of warmth.
