The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the breakroom, a comfort against the Monday morning chill. Michael watched Sarah across the small table, her face lit by the glow of her phone. She was always so cheerful, a stark contrast to his usual start-of-week gloom. He’d learned recently they’d both attended Camp Clearwater as kids.

He took a slow sip, remembering the mud fights and singalongs. He hadn’t thought about Clearwater in years.

Sarah looked up, her eyes sparkling. “Did you ever sneak out to the lake at night?” she asked, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. He nodded, surprised. He was so glad he had such a friendly coworker.
