The flickering light from the dusty attic bulb illuminated the old, leather-bound book tucked away in a forgotten corner. Amelia, dusting it off, felt a shiver of warmth trace down her spine. It was a ledger. Inside, in her late husband's neat script, were meticulous entries: amounts saved, dates, and notations – "For Amelia, someday."

She ran a hand over the words, the paper thin and worn. Tears pricked her eyes, but a smile bloomed on her face. This house, this life they had built together, it was all secured. She could breathe easier now, knowing his quiet planning had safeguarded her future. A deep sigh, like a release, escaped her lips.
