The doorbell rang, and Ms. Evans opened the door to find a delivery man holding a magnificent bouquet of sunflowers. They were enormous, their faces turned toward the sun. Attached was a card. "Thank you for being my sunshine," it read, signed by a student named Lily, who used to be so withdrawn and quiet.

A smile spread across her face. Seeing Lily's name brought the memories flooding back. She'd struggled to connect with Lily, who was facing such difficult issues at home, but she always hoped that her caring would get through.
