Gemotions

The rumble of the chainsaw echoed through David's kitchen. His neighbor, Martha, had asked to take down the shared birch tree. He hadn't wanted to, but the risk of it falling on her house was too great.

He watched her from his window, a tight feeling in his chest. She was directing the tree cutters, her face set in a worried frown. He remembered all the times her cheerful presence had lifted his spirits, especially after his wife had passed.

He walked outside, and without a word, started helping the tree cutters carry the logs. He worked tirelessly until the sun dipped below the horizon, feeling a strange surge of energy.
