Gemotions

The flickering hospital fluorescent lights seemed to hum a song of relief in her ears. Sarah reached out, her fingers brushing the worn, leather-bound journal on the bedside table. A smile played on her lips as she opened it, the familiar scent of aged paper and ink comforting. Across the room, the man who had been her roommate for the past week, a Mr. Evans, was fiddling with his IV drip.

“How are you feeling today, Mr. Evans?” she asked, her voice soft.

He looked up, a hesitant smile forming on his lips. “Better, actually. Much better. The medication seems to be… working.”

She closed her journal, the weight of the story inside settling on her heart. Another page filled with hope. She knew the rarity of their condition, the desperation they had both felt before the diagnosis. Seeing him improve, feeling the subtle shift in her own body, filled her with a lightness she hadn't known she possessed. She knew she had a new friend, and that made all the difference.
