The sterile white of the clinic room blurred around her. A wave of dizziness, a familiar companion, threatened to topple her. But the feeling passed quickly. It was becoming easier. Since they’d met, she felt a shift, a steadying in the turbulent currents of her illness.

Across the room, David, her mirror and solace in suffering, was carefully examining a pamphlet. “They have a new study going, something about dietary changes.” His voice was laced with enthusiasm.

She smiled, a warmth spreading through her chest. The thought of facing this, of fighting for health, together filled her with a quiet joy. The loneliness was finally gone.
